TORONTO – Prominent Ukrainian political activist Omelan Kowal died on January 19 in Lviv.

OTTAWA – Andrij Makuch, a talented Ukrainian Canadian scholar and intellectual, passed away on January 18. He was 62.

AUSTIN, Texas – John J. McKetta Jr., professor emeritus and dean emeritus at The University of Texas at Austin and namesake to the chemical engineering department in the Cockrell School of Engineering, died on January 15 at the age of 103. 

 WASHINGTON – On January 23, Ukrainian-Briton Nadia Diuk passed away. This was reported on Facebook by her sister, who wrote that Nadia had died at home after a long battle with cancer.

PARSIPPANY, N.J – Zenowij Onyshkewych, a prolific Ukrainian American artist, whose oeuvre includes a wide range of media, died on December 30, 2018 at the age of 89.

OTTAWA – Gene Zwozdesky, former speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, former member of the Legislative Assembly, and long-time Ukrainian Canadian community leader and volunteer, died on January 6. He was 70.
